Japan Business Systems, Inc. (Headquarters: Minato Ward, Tokyo; President: Yukihiro Makita; hereinafter, “JBS” securities code: 5036) has commenced the provision of Cloud Security Diagnosis for Microsoft 365, a CIS benchmark*-compliant service as the first installment in a collaboration with Global Security Experts Inc. (Headquarters: Minato Ward, Tokyo; President: Shiro Aoyagi; hereinafter, “GSX;” securities code: 4417). With the advancement of digital transformations (DX), external cyberattacks are becoming more diverse and sophisticated. It is therefore necessary for companies to take appropriate measures and steps. JBS and GSX will diagnose the status of a client’s Microsoft 365 settings, identify inappropriate settings that are susceptible to information leakage or data destruction, visualize security issues, and provide appropriate measures and targets.

Background and Issues

With the upsurge of DX, it is important to take appropriate measures and steps in preparation for the ever-diversifying and increasingly sophisticated external cyberattacks. Cloud services, which are essential in advancing DX, are evolving on a daily basis as functions expand, and it is imperative that we understand the risks and ensure safety every time they are updated to the latest version. Additionally, we must prepare not only for external factors, but also for system damage that occurs internally and information leakage due to carless mistakes. On the other hand, there are also many administrators who have concerns such as the following.

  • We don’t know if the current settings environment can withstand a sophisticated cyberattack.
  • Our grasp/understanding can’t catch up as new functions are updated on a daily basis.
  • We can’t grasp the existing settings situation to begin with.
  • We don’t have security experts or do not have enough and we can’t check our security.

JBS and GSX jointly developed and provide this service to assist such companies. On the customers behalf, JBS and GSX diagnoses your Microsoft 365 settings situation, detects inappropriate settings that may lead to information leakage or data destruction, visualizes potential security issues at companies, and provides guidance on appropriate measures and steps.

Service Description

We have prepared two plans, standard and advanced, depending on client needs. In the standard version, GSX utilizes CIS benchmarks adopted by many companies, both in Japan and overseas, to compile and provide a diagnosis that includes an understanding of the current situation, analysis, and measures. It clarifies the following for a company’s systems.

  • Whether the current systems can withstand an external attack.
  • Whether information can be carried out by an internal perpetrator.
  • Whether data that has been maliciously tampered with or destroyed can be recovered.

In the advanced plan, based on the diagnosis by GSX in the standard plan, JBS further analyzes the client’s Microsoft 365 usage situation in detail, presents items that need to be addressed, the steps to address them, and provides support for improvement through discussion.

    GSX is an expert on security, having started to offer services that incorporate CIS benchmarks at an early stage, and has a long track record in security diagnostics. Through this collaboration with GSX, an expert on security, and JBS, which has strengths in Microsoft solutions, we provide detailed vulnerability checks in Microsoft 365 environments and support based on operation that does not stop merely at countermeasure proposals.
